Frida Folk is a visual recreation of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo’s life and art through memorabilia and kitsch from around the world. It features an unexpected collection of objects, images and mementos created by people from all walks of life.
The book is written by German academic Gaby Franger and published by Tara Books. Take a quick look at the book here.
The cover was embossed to recreate the tactility of the image of the frame.
The book contains a vast collection of images photographed over 10 years, under various light conditions, as well as multiple levels of information. It was a challenge to create a layout that would accommodate this variety, and yet unify the book through a visual language.
A second challenge was to typeset the German edition of the book within the same layout restrictions.
