Where has the Tiger Gone? is a collection of traditional tales about the tiger from an indigenous community in central India, published by Tara Books. In this book, artist and author Dhavat Singh Uikey of the Pardhan Gond community retells traditional stories in which the tiger is both revered and feared, illustrating them in a symbolic art style.
An anecdote in the text shaped the design of the die-cut cover:
"...We have gone looking for the tiger at the zoo many times—and found him hidden behind a tree or rock. Sometimes only his tail is visible, at other times, one of his paws. He stays within the boundaries of the area around which he is allowed to wander."

Rigid, vertical cuts on the cover partially obscure the printed image of a tiger beneath, referencing the community’s altered relationship with the animal today—distant and contained within imposed boundaries. In this project, the cover—often the final stage of the book design process—was developed first and set the visual direction for the rest of the book.
