Weaving with Compassion
Multiple textual and visual narratives come together in this book about the spiritual wisdom that guides the craft practices of a weaver community.
WITH TARA BOOKS
Weaving with Compassion: the Rikhyas of Kutch is a book that explores the Meghwal community of weavers in Kutch, Gujarat. It was put together by crafts practitioner Meera Goradia and published by Tara Books.
My role in this project involved two key aspects: making the photographs, and developing a cohesive design system for the book’s layout. My approach to photography was through the lens of a book designer, ensuring the images adhered to a consistent visual language while complementing the text. The flexible layout was crafted to accommodate multiple narratives, tying together abstract and metaphorical textual and visual elements to offer a balanced reading experience.
The design process and making of this book are documented in detail on the Tara Books blog: Warp and Weft in Book Design.
